Europe is a wondrous place that lets you experience a journey through time. It's where you'll find art, food, history and architecture like no other place on the planet.

A world map with Europe highlighted

The countries of Europe have a way of pulling you in and refusing to let go. One moment you’re sipping an espresso on a sun-warmed street corner, the next you’re wandering down lanes where centuries of history seem to hum in the cobblestones. The air carries music, spices, and stories, and every turn has a surprise that feels both familiar and utterly new. It’s a place to wander without a plan, taste without hesitation, and get lost in experiences that stick with you long after you leave.

Frequently asked questions about Europe

Get your questions answered with our most FAQs, but if there’s something we haven’t covered, please get in touch.

What is the best way to handle currency (Euros vs. Card)?
The Euro (€) is the currency in 20 EU member states, but many other countries use their own currencies (e.g., Swiss Franc, Czech Koruna, British Pound). Card payments (Visa/Mastercard) are widely accepted everywhere, especially in cities.
What is the best time of year to visit Europe from New Zealand?
The shoulder seasons (late April–June and September–October) are generally the best. They offer pleasant, warm weather, fewer crowds, and lower prices than the peak summer months (July/August). Winter (Nov–Mar) is the cheapest but very cold, though great for skiing and Christmas markets.
Can I drive in Europe with my NZ driver's licence?
Yes, but often with an extra document. Your valid NZ driver's licence is required, but for many countries (including Italy, Austria, and others), it must be accompanied by an International Driving Permit (IDP), which you can obtain from the AA in New Zealand before you leave.
What is the best way to travel long distances between countries?
Trains are often the best option. Europe has an excellent, extensive, and fast rail network (e.g., high-speed trains or the Interrail/Eurail passes) that is comfortable and avoids airport hassle. For crossing vast distances (e.g., Paris to Athens), low-cost airlines are often the most time-efficient choice.
